![]() Only truly scary episode was the penultimate drop where Hojo has to defend the shop. For a game that has so far had some of my favorite creepy ghost designs, they wasted a lot of opportunities to scare the player. The whole Miku and Mafuyu sub plot that not only undermines what Miku lived in Fatal Frame I and III, but also comes off as disgusting.Yuri and to a minor degree Hisoka were the only likeable ones. ![]() The way the characters acted made me speculate more than once if everyone was possessed, and some of the things they said and their clingy behavior made them scarier than the actual ghosts. I know the characters in the series are not exactly super deep or charismatic, but this time around everyone had the personality of a cardboard box and the common sense of a cat in front of a tank full of electric eels, and the rest of the time being full on assholes (at least Ren and Miu, but at least Ren changes in the end).It wasn't until the very last episode where you get some of the stuff explained in sequence which makes you realize you spent a lot of time picking up and reading stuff that just amounted to "Black Water bad, Pillars important, sad people die as happy people here". The story itself was simple and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that what bugged me is the fact that there were lots of reports spread all across trying to make it seem deeper than it really was when those documents just kept repeating the same thing over and over with vaguely different wording.Oh God, this also surpassed 4 in my list of games that left me with mixed feelings in everything else, so bear with me, I need to get this out of my chest. It was an enjoyable experience and I think the team at Tecmo can learn a lot from it. I hope the series keeps going on from here, be it with the remasters or a sequel. First of all, I found the game to be fun and that's the most important part.
